Garden Path & Border Lights
In one line: path lighting is about marking a route rather than illuminating it — evenly spaced low points, no glare at eye level, and nothing you can trip over.
The usual mistake is too few, too bright: six small points along a path read better than two large ones. Spacing of 1.5–2 m suits most garden paths; tight spacing near a step or a corner where the route turns.
What belongs here
- Stakes and ground fixtures: solar firefly and jellyfish stakes, stone-style path lights — solar outdoor lighting.
- Hedges and borders: copper fairy runs and nets — net lights.
- Tree wraps: fairy strands on a trunk, wrapped from the base upward.
Practical notes
- Keep fixtures out of the mowing line and away from sprinkler heads.
- For anything at ground level, go higher on the rating — IP ratings explained.
- Solar works best here: no mains connection at ground level — what changes in winter.
