Patio & Outdoor Dining Lights
In one line: for a table outside, light wants to come from above and slightly behind — a festoon run overhead, or hanging globes that put light on the surface rather than the ceiling.
Two rules separate a dining area that works after dark from one that does not: the light source sits above eye level so nobody is looking into a bulb, and the colour stays warm so food does not look grey.
What belongs here
- Overhead runs: festoon and globe strings at 2.1–2.4 m — festoon & string lights.
- Hanging pieces: globes and drops that put the light closer to the table.
- Bistro sets: clear globes on a dark cable, for a softer, older look.
Practical notes
- Measure the route the cable follows, then add about 10% — length guide.
- Mains for all-evening use; a shaded patio will not charge a solar panel well — solar vs plug-in.
- One colour temperature across the table. Warm white is the safe choice; see which colour to choose.
